Acompli for iOS: Your Productivity Hub in One App
Acompli is designed to bring together your email, calendar, and cloud file management needs into one convenient app. It promises to boost your productivity by combining these essential tools in a single interface. But does it deliver on its potential?
Seamless Integration of Productivity Tools
One of the standout features of Acompli is its ability to smoothly switch between email, calendar, and cloud storage. This means you can quickly toggle between your inbox and your schedule or browse files stored in services like Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive and easily attach them to outgoing emails.
The app also features a “focused inbox” that prioritizes your most important emails, separating them from less critical ones in an “other” inbox. While this helps declutter your inbox, it only offers these two categories—unlike Gmail, which allows for multiple tabs like Social and Promotions. Moving emails between these folders can also be confusing for new users.
File and Calendar Management Made Simple
Acompli makes it convenient to manage your documents by letting you connect popular cloud storage accounts and download or attach files directly. The app also supports multiple calendars, so you’ll never miss a meeting or appointment. While contacts can be accessed within the app, they’re only viewable in a basic list format, making it tricky to find a specific person quickly.
Custom Notifications and Email Scheduling
Another handy aspect of Acompli is its customizable notification system. You can choose to receive alerts only from your focused inbox or toggle calendar reminders on and off. The standout feature here is the ability to schedule emails for later, adding a useful “to-do list” functionality that other apps often lack.
User Experience: A Mixed Bag
The left sidebar menu provides quick access to your inbox, calendar, files, and contacts, but managing multiple email accounts can be a challenge. While you can see all folders for your first email account, secondary accounts only show the main inbox, making it harder to access sent items, spam, or trash.
Visually, Acompli isn’t going to win any design awards. The interface is minimalist to the point of being dull, with small fonts in the sidebar that can be hard to read. Performance is another sticking point—especially after adding more than one account, the app can become sluggish and prone to crashing.
Initial Setup Challenges
Getting started with Acompli can be frustrating. Adding new accounts is buried in the settings rather than highlighted up front, and some email accounts (like Hotmail) may not connect at all. Even when accounts do connect, like Yahoo, message syncing can be inconsistent or fail completely. Discrepancies in unread message counts also create confusion, particularly when compared to other email apps.
Potential with Room for Improvement
Overall, Acompli packs a lot of features, but its usability and reliability leave something to be desired. While it’s great to have email, calendar, and cloud integration in one app, performance issues and confusing account management prevent it from reaching its full potential. If you rely heavily on multiple email accounts, you might find this app more frustrating than helpful in its current state.
